Understanding the Difference Between Male and Female Voices

When: Friday, April 3, 3:00–4:00 pm

Dr. Thomas will explain the anatomy of the throat and vocal cords which establishes our vocal character. He will show how the vocal cords and vocal tract function and the differences between male and female voice boxes. Finally he will cover surgical procedures to alter the voice and include before and after samples of voices.

Dr. James Thomas

Dr. James Thomas trained in medicine at Pennsylvania State University and completed a six year residency in otolaryngology at Southern Illinois University. He then traveled; studying laryngology in China, the US, Canada, and Europe, and completed a fellowship in laryngology with Robert Bastian, MD at Loyola University in Chicago. He initiated the voice lab at Oregon Health Sciences University before setting up in private practice in Portland, Oregon, specializing only in laryngology. Surgical procedures to alter the pitch and quality of the voice are a focus of his practice.
